The Classic Clog, Reinvigorated: Rome

As the winter grays melt in the spring thaw, the landscape rejuvenates with fresh blooms. In a sense, it’s as though nature is redesigning her horizons. The disposition is eager, rejuvenated and energized regarding the potential that comes with something new. It’s where we found our inspiration behind the reinvigoration of the iconic clog shape with a little twist. Introducing, Rome – where the essence remains yet rebels with metallic studs and a mid-heel base. It’s unexpected, and yet, completely comfortable. Now, to describe a Swedish clog as “edgy” is to insinuate that it pushes its own boundaries. However, this edgy style is also effortless. Much like what spring does to its own terrain, our Rome clog takes what is already celebrated and refreshes it...

Chukka Cap Toe, Renewed: The Perfect Clog Boot for Fall

As the weather cools and the seasons change, we find ourselves reaching for a comfortable pair of boots. Similar to the reiteration of our Bridget clog shoe, the Chukka Cap Toe clog boot found its color inspiration in nature. In this instance however, we looked to the velvety night sky. Balancing the new Black, Olive and Navy leather shades is a rich, dark wooden base, fully supporting the intrinsic details that delight in this unique design. A perfectly complementary counterpart to night is of course, day – and another combination of this clog boot lightens the room with a light base and Stone color. Not only does this clog boot style pay homage to the shorter days and longer nights that come with the autumn...

Meet the Sandgrens Team: Christer

Our clog master, Christer, started working at the factory when he was 13 years old; helping his father, Sven. Working at his father’s side, the skills of handcrafting clogs were passed down from one generation to the next. Over the years, that dedication to the profession resulted in the creation of what “must be over thousands and thousands of clogs!” Christer remarked with a laugh. “During the 70s when the clog trend was huge, we made so many pairs,” he said. “If you ask a Swede from this time, everyone will tell a story about wearing wooden clogs.” And Tokyo, a style still made by Sandgrens today, was among the most popular styles back then. In fact, Christer favors the style so much that he...

Bridget, Reinvented: The Perfect Clog for Fall

Scandinavian design concepts champion the ideal that less is more. The phrase “less is more” is commonly used to express the view that a minimalist approach to artistic and aesthetic matters is more effective and impactful. It proves that simplicity does not have to be boring, but instead, classic. Epitomizing this concept is our closed toe, closed heel clog shoe, Bridget. Taking note from the reinvention of nature’s seasonal landscape with brilliantly colored leaves, we’ve reinvented the palette of this clog style that is ideal for fall. Starting on a dark base, the colors of the leather takes center stage. Perfect for a stroll along a paved nature path, Bridget in Sand, Plum, Olive or Dexter Tan perfectly complements the colors of the foliage. But...

Sandgrens Fall Color Release: Stone

Good design should be able to do more than one thing. And a key attribute of good design is the versatility it presents. At its core, the color is among its most important components. Simply put, neutral colors never go out of style. With this in mind, we at Sandgrens took our inspiration from nature. Nowhere is the blending and matching of versatile colors more pure than within the natural landscapes. There, lush greens marry with sturdy browns and bright colors mix with the standard greys. As the seasonal transition to fall paints the horizon with brilliant golds, oranges and reds of the foliage, we discovered likewise, gray is among the strongest of neutrals to carry wardrobes through this time of year. It’s easy, it’s...

A conversation with Lena

Meet Lena, who cuts all the leather for every single pair of clogs. Lena has been working at the Factory for 8 years and she has become a real expert in leather and cutting. She knows exactly how to cut the most efficient and how to cut for using as much as possible from every hide of leather. Sustainability always-in mind and she doesn’t like to scrap leather. What do you need to think about when cutting the leather? It’s important to make sure that you cut from the same cowhide for the same pair of clogs, so they’ll look the same. For example while cutting a pair of Tokyo in the nude vegetable leather it is important to cut two pieces from the same...
